General

The Series 225 high voltage power supplies offer advanced control and monitoring features accessible via an internal IEEE-488 interface or from front panel controls. The Series 225 is ideally suited for both system and laboratory applications.

Overload values for output voltage and current can be set from 0 up to 101% of the units' maximum rating. The unit can be programmed to turn off with the occurrence of a voltage and/or current overload. The unit can also be independently programmed to issue a service request (SRQ) via the IEEE-488 bus upon the occurrence of an overload whether or not it was programmed for overload shutdown.

A polarity switch selects the high voltage output polarity. All programming, monitoring, accuracy, etc., specifications and features are independent of the high voltage polarity. The selected polarity is displayed on the front panel, can be read via the IEEE-488 bus, and is indicated by a logic bit at the remote analog connector.

All units include remote analog high voltage programming, remote analog output voltage monitoring, and remote analog current monitoring capability accessible via a rear panel connector. A rear panel switch can select the remote analog programming feature or front panel and remote IEEE-488 control.

The analog voltage and current monitors are accessible for continuous remote monitoring or recording. The rear panel multi-pin remote analog connector also includes an interlock logic input and a polarity indicator logic output. These features are always active.

The front panel LED digital display provides 5 digit resolution for voltage and current readings. It is also used to display error messages, SRQ mode, overload response mode, model number, IEEE-488 address, and turn-on self-test conditions.

A self-test routine is automatically run on power-up This routine tests every indicator and every segment of the 5 digit display and polarity indicator, and also reads the IEEE-488 address switches. At the conclusion of the routine, the display identifies the model number and polarity setting, then switches to a zero volts display.

Polarity: For 1kV through 5kV models, polarity reversal is achieved by a screwdriver accessible switch at the rear of the unit. For the 10kV, 20kV, 30kV and 50kV models, polarity reversal is achieved by the reversal of an internal assembly. The selected polarity is displayed by a front panel LED indicator.

Features

Front Panel Meter:
The meter accuracy is ± (0.2% of reading + 0.1% of maximum) for voltage readings and ± (0.5% of reading + 0.5% of maximum) for current readings.

Front Panel Control:
Velocity proportional control provides both high resolution and quick full range control of the output high voltage, the output voltage and current limit, and for changing the SRQ and overload operating mode.

Control Accuracy:
The accuracy of the front panel voltage setting and output limit settings is ± (0.1% of setting +0.05% of maximum).

Resolution:
Meter and control resolution are identical and are as indicated in the chart above.

IEEE-488 Implementation
The following parameters can be programmed via the IEEE-488 interface: output high voltage, output high voltage limit, output current limit, overload response mode and the SRQ mode.

The following parameters can be monitored via the IEEE-488 interface: output high voltage, output current, limit settings, mode settings, polarity, and status information.

The control and monitoring accuracies and resolutions are as stated above for the Series 225 front panel control and metering.

Upon turn-on the unit reports the automatic self test results, model number, and status. Rear panel switches allow the user to set the IEEE-488 address.

Analog Output High Voltage Programming:
0 to +5 Volt dc analog input signal proportional to 0 to maximum rated output. Accuracy is ± (0.1% of setting + 0.05% of maximum). The programming input impedance is greater than 10 megohms.

Analog Output High Voltage Monitor:
0 to +5 Volts proportional to 0 to maximum output high voltage. Accuracy is ± (0.1% of reading + 0.05% of maximum). The monitor output impedance is 10 kilohms.

Analog Output Current Monitor:
0 to +5 Volts proportional to 0 to maximum output current, except as indicated. Accuracy is ±(0.25% of reading + 0.25% of maximum). The monitor output impedance is 10 kilohms.

Interlock:
Remote interlock disables (low), enables (high) the high voltage output. Signal is normally high and supply will default to an "enabled" condition.
